cutting up and cutting in

eli johns-krull (b. 2003) is an artist living and working in Houston, TX. their work is a continual experiment in iteration, making and finding still and moving images, cutting them up and breaking them down, and reshaping them into new forms. he draws from both personal and public archives to collect material, creating a living ecology of images between and across her practice that grows with each new project. questions of identity, history, mapping, and the nature and power of the camera image emerge, mingle, and collide in an always evolving interrogation of himself and their medium.

eli received a BA in visual & dramatic arts and physics from Rice University in 2025. she currently works as the assistant registrar and preparator at Inman Gallery in Houston.
